Cookbook Swap

We all have plenty of recipe books on our shelves (some of us more than others), but if you're anything like us, you tend to stick to a few favourites, and leave all the rest sitting there unused. We thought it would be a nice idea to get those neglected recipe books moving and back in use, and what better way than to enlist the help of the internet! If you fancy the idea of passing an unused recipe book on to someone else, and receiving a sparkly new (to you) book in exchange, then this is the swap for you!

Our first swap is for retro-cookbooks (see the post below for more details).

How it works :

Sign up for the Recipe Book Swap by emailing your details to souptuesdayblog@gmail.com by the deadline. Include your name, twitter ID and blog address (if you have one). If you have any dietary restrictions include these - depending on how many people we have sign up we'll try to match you with someone with the same dietary requirements, or else let your match know.

We're currently only running this for people in the UK, but if you live somewhere else and want to be involved, send us an email telling us which country you are in, and if there are enough people from your country, we'll match you up with each other.

Deadline for the Retro Cookbook Swap is 1 June 2012.

(Coming soon : we will have a badge you can put up on your blog if you have one.)

Identify a recipe book - either from your shelves, or take the opportunity to browse your local charity shop - there are some real classics out there, and it'll be a little bit of money to a good cause. Please don't spend a fortune though.

You will receive an email with your match's email address the weekend after the deadline.

Matches will be sent on the 3rd June 2012.

Make contact with your match, and get their postage details. Having participated in other online swaps, this is a good chance to get to know some other food bloggers and people passionate about food.

Pack up your recipe book and send it off to your match (by the 16th June 2012). Include a note about where you found it, and any recipes you fancy out of it (you could take the opportunity to blog a recipe from your outgoing cookbook).

When your new recipe book arrives, select a recipe from it, make it and blog about it on the designated day (30 June 2012). If you don't have a blog, either tweet about it, or we're happy to put a guest post up for you on SoupTuesday - just let us know in advance. If you don't have a blog or Twitter account that's fine too - just taking part will be lots of fun, and the more the merrier!

  1. Fab idea. I understand about limiting to UK only and not currently other countries. But does that also discount expats with english written cookbooks?

    1. The limitation is more because of postage costs rather than language (that hadn't occurred to us!). If you want to sign up we can match you with someone who doesn't mind the postage costs to Spain(?), as long as you're happy to post to the UK.
